“Who do you think you are?”
How you read that question may well depend on your prior experience with answering it.
Many will read it with an aching heart, emphasizing the lack of clarity and worth they feel.
For some, an accusatory voice will orate a condescending tone. “Just who do you think you are? How dare you? What gives you the right? Who gave you permission? You aren’t qualified!” Doubt, deception and shame fill their minds and sadden their hearts.
Others will respond with a laundry list of activities including where they work and what they do to earn a living, their marital status, parental responsibilities, volunteer service and hobbies. Their identity is a cocktail of work, service and position. This will never satisfy the deep longings of the soul.
Our true identity must be rooted in our being, not in our doing!
If you are in Christ, you should take great JOY in answering the question of who you are! In Him you are a chosen and beloved child of God! Sealed in the Holy Spirit, you have the right as a son or daughter to cry out, “Abba, Father!”
Who You are in Christ
For the believer in Jesus Christ, our identity must be firmly derived from the truth of God’s Word.
Fast and furiously, the world is bombarding us with messages, both negative and positive, informing us of who we should be, how to act and what to think. We are drowning in the world’s noise.
Everywhere we turn, there is another opinion attempting to shape and define who we are and what we are to believe about ourselves, our circumstances and our self-worth.
Beyond negative, many of these messages are flat-out false. They are LIES.
And so it begins……
Our feelings get entangled with these false images, forcing comparisons that should never be made. God warns us in Jeremiah 17:9 that “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” It is vital that we learn to lead with our minds and not our feelings!
We get lured into the deception that we are not ‘good enough’. Inadequacy, discouragement and a lack of confidence grip our souls. “You don’t measure up. Give up. Let your dreams die. You aren’t worthy.”
We become trapped in webs of deception. We become SLAVES TO FEAR.
Everything that comes before the gatekeeper of our minds must be examined in the light of Scripture. We must determine if this idea is valid through the lens of Scripture. Does this thought, claim or assertion align with the light of God’s Word?
As we train our minds to be alert, we take all thoughts captive to obey Christ. Our identities build on the reality of who God is and who He reveals we are through His Word. We walk in the fullness, abundance and authority as children of God—adopted sons and daughters! Chosen and beloved, we are redeemed for a purpose in accordance with His will. You have great worth because the One who created you is our Worthy God!
Knowing who God is determines who we are as His children. It’s key!
Having experienced this great love and freedom, I am compelled to share THE TRUTH IN LOVE with others.
I say, “ENOUGH!” to the lies.
ENOUGH of the negative.
ENOUGH of the fear that enslaves.
In the name of Jesus Christ, “ENOUGH!”
WE WERE DESIGNED FOR FREEDOM.
As a beloved daughter in Christ, I have been set free from the bondage of fear. As an adopted child of God, I know my Father. He is the God of the Bible and true to His Word. His promises are true. He has a good plan for me—and for you. His will is for us to know Him and experience the liberation of living in the fullness of His grace and mercy!
The Time is Now—–
